Seiden Group Now Supports Mapepire for Node.js and Db2 for IBM i Connectivity

Mapapire database driver for IBM iSeiden Group is pleased to announce that we now provide production support for the open source Mapepire database connector for IBM i. This includes support for Node.js applications and cloud-based or containerized workloads that connect to Db2 for i—whether from IBM i itself or from external systems.

Many developers already rely on Mapepire every day—sometimes without realizing it—because it’s the back-end to the Db2 for i extension for VS Code. We’re excited to help clients adopt this lightweight, high-performance connector.

What is Mapepire?

Mapepire is a modern open source database driver designed to provide fast, reliable access to Db2 for i, particularly from Node.js, cloud computing environments, and containers. It was created to address challenges with older ODBC solutions, offering a streamlined alternative that works well across platforms and deployment environments.

Our SmartSupport clients adopting Mapepire have been pleased with its performance.

Mapepire is currently used with a variety of programming languages. The Mapepire GitHub repository includes a complete list of supported clients—including Node.js, Java, Python, and others.

What about a PHP client?

At this time, we don’t see an urgent need for a dedicated PHP client for Mapepire. PHP’s ODBC-based extensions (odbc and especially pdo_odbc) and the traditional ibm_db2 extension remain well supported and effective for most use cases. However, if demand grows for a PHP client based on Mapepire, we may develop one.

Yet another benefit of Seiden SmartSupport

Seiden Group is proud to add Mapepire to the technologies we support under SmartSupport, alongside and supplementing PHP, Node.js, Python, and VS Code for i support. Whether you’re building apps on IBM i or integrating Db2 for i from the cloud, we’re here to support you.

Get in touch if you need your Node.js Db2 connection to be rock-solid, or would like production support with other open source technology or IBM i.
