Code for IBM i Minimum Requirements

The Code for i maintainers have updated the Code for i documentation with clearer minimum requirements.

As of today, the system minimums are:

• IBM i 7.3 – Technology Refresh 8 (TR8)
• SSH Daemon must be started on IBM i
  • (Licensed program 5733-SC1 provides SSH support.)
  • STRTCPSVR *SSHD starts the daemon
  • User QSSHD is enabled

Incidentally, IBM i 7.3 is out of support. Versions 7.4 and 7.5 are excellent and 7.6 is now available as well.

Behind the scenes of TR requirements

IBM i 7.3 TR5: This TR included an enhancement for the SQL built-in function EXTRACT() that is used by the Code for i Object Browser. Without TR5, users may receive the error message Token EPOCH was not valid. The details were discussed in a Code for i Github comment.

IBM i 7.3 TR8: This TR added the LIBRARY_INFO table function that Code for i now uses. Without this minimum TR level, the error message LIBRARY_INFO in QSYS2 type *N not found may appear.
