What’s New in Open Source on IBM i

April 20, 2023/0 Comments/in IBM i, Open Source /by Amy Lantz

Open source on IBM i is moving fast these days. Alan recently shared his favorite updates to IBM i open source—focusing on improved security, performance, and ease of programming—at a Summit Lunch & Learn hosted by Paul Tuohy.

In addition to waxing lyrical about curl, the “Swiss army knife” of open source, Alan shared his top tips related to:

  • New features in PHP, Node.js and Python
  • ODBC enhancements for IBM i
  • New open source tools

What’s New in Open Source on IBM i is queued up in the video below.

If you prefer, you can start with Paul’s sections: DDS to DDL Part 1 or DDS to DDL Part 2 (around the 1:03 mark.) Each section outlines a different way to take advantage of SQL’s DDL if you are working with a traditional DDS-defined database.

Please contact us if you’d like a copy of Alan’s handout. Be sure to specify that you’d like the handout for “What’s New in Open Source.”

As always, if your team wants to boost application performance or reliability—or needs a hand with development—challenge us!
